Stand For Truth & Righteousness
The Obergefell v. Hodges (2015) case resulted in the unfortunate redefining of marriage. Once I finished reading this case I began to contemplate the Court Justices who dissented. They stood up for what they believed in and did what they could to make sure their voice was heard. Unfortunately their voices weren’t loud enough, but just the thought of them standing up for what they believed in really stood out to me. Their actions made me think about what we should be doing every single day of our lives.
One of the dissenting Court Justices stated,
“As the majority acknowledges, marriage ‘has existed for millennia and across civilizations.’ Ante, at 3. For all those millennia, across all those civilizations, ‘marriage’ referred to only one relationship: the union of a man and a woman.”
The world is becoming so corrupt and lost but it is up to us to stay strong and continue to stand up for what is right and to support one another in that cause. At times it can seem a bit daunting to stand up and speak against the popular majority, but when you know that you stood up for what you believed in then the feeling is very fulfilling.
Growing up in Idaho I was surrounded by a lot of members of the church but I still had my fair share of moments when I needed to stand up for something I believed in. It can be difficult to do that especially if you’re doing it alone, but it will always be worth it. You may not see the benefits of it right away but I’m sure they will come. I strongly believe that you can’t go wrong if you’re doing what’s right. Going back to the Court Justices who dissented, it is imperative that we defend marriage because marriage affects the family.
Russell M. Nelson stated,
“Male and female are created for what they can do and become, together. It takes a man and a woman to bring a child into the world. Mothers and fathers are not interchangeable. Men and women are distinct and complementary. Children deserve a chance to grow up with both a mom and a dad.”
We must protect what is most dear to us. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel the need to stand up for something you believe in then say a prayer asking for courage, and then let the Spirit guide you. I have a strong testimony of the strength, courage, and comfort that you can receive from the Holy Ghost.
