Bring Christ Into Your Marriage
If you find yourself struggling to have peace in your
marriage then you must turn to the Lord for assistance.
President Boyd K. Packer said,
“If you seek for a cure that
ignores faith and religious doctrine, you look for a cure where it never will be
found.”
No matter how much you love your spouse, if you aren’t
keeping the Savior as a part of your life and your relationship then you’ll
find your marriage to be a lot more difficult and, quite possibly, more
contentious.
In the book, “Drawing Heaven into Your Marriage,” it
is stated,
“Douglas Brinley suggests that understanding doctrine softens our
hearts and leads to Christ-like behavior, which culminates in happy marriages.”
You must learn to humble yourself and realize that sometimes
you need to work on changing yourself rather than trying to change your spouse.
Elder Robert D. Hales said,
Essentially what this is saying is that you should be like the person you want to marry.
“Your responsibility now is to be
worthy of the person you want to marry. If you want to marry a wholesome,
attractive, honest, happy, hardworking, spiritual person, be that kind of
person.”
Essentially what this is saying is that you should be like the person you want to marry.
In the case that you are already married and you want to
build your marriage in a more spiritual way then you need to start with
yourself.
How can you expect your spouse to be drawing closer to the Savior when
you aren’t willing to draw closer to the Savior yourself?
If you are able to get into the habit of doing those
things like reading the scriptures and saying your prayers daily on your own
then perhaps that will remind your spouse that they should be doing those same
things and soon enough you can successfully develop a habit of doing those
things together.
